AliceSense Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how AliceSense ("the App") handles user data. AliceSense is an independent art and research project that captures environmental signals and can develop them into images using OpenAI APIs.

Summary

  • No account required. We do not ask for your name, email, or contact details.
  • No advertising or tracking. We do not use ad networks, analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking.
  • Captures stay local unless you choose AI development. Sensor Cards, images, edge maps, audio clips, and environmental readings remain on your device unless you explicitly ask the app to develop a card with AI.
  • Your own OpenAI API key stays local. If you enter a personal OpenAI API key, it is stored only on your device in Apple Keychain.
  • The managed free tier is limited and content-minimizing. If you use the built-in free development option, requests pass through our Cloudflare Worker only to enforce a daily quota and forward the request to OpenAI. It is designed not to store prompts, images, audio clips, or other raw capture contents.

Information We Collect

AliceSense does not require an account and does not intentionally collect personal information such as your name, email address, contacts, or advertising identifiers.

  • We do not maintain user accounts or profiles.
  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We do not track you across apps or websites.

What Stays On Your Device

By default, AliceSense stores your work locally on your device. This includes undeveloped Sensor Cards, developed images, preview assets, audio clips, prompt drafts, and environmental readings captured for a card.

  • Captured images and low-detail visual reference assets remain local until you choose to use AI development.
  • Environmental inputs such as sound level, ambient audio, motion, time, weather context, place label, and similar capture metadata remain local unless needed for an AI request you initiate.
  • Your selected settings and app state remain local on device.
  • Your personal OpenAI API key, if added, is stored locally in Apple Keychain and is not uploaded to us.

When Data Is Sent Off Device

AliceSense only sends capture-related data off device when you explicitly choose to use AI features, such as developing a Sensor Card or requesting AI interpretation of an ambient audio clip.

  • The app may send the generated prompt, selected capture metadata, low-detail visual scaffold images such as edge maps, and captured ambient audio clips needed to fulfill your request.
  • If you use your own OpenAI API key, the request is sent directly from the app to OpenAI.
  • If you use the app's managed free development mode, the request is routed through our Cloudflare Worker and then forwarded to OpenAI.
  • We do not use your captures to build advertising profiles or sell user data.

Managed Free Tier and Cloudflare Worker

AliceSense includes an optional managed free development mode. This service is implemented with a Cloudflare Worker that acts as a lightweight proxy to OpenAI and enforces a limited daily quota per app install.

The managed service is designed to avoid storing capture content. It keeps only the minimum operational data needed to run the quota system and basic aggregate service metrics.

  • A locally generated client identifier may be used to track remaining free developments for the day.
  • The service may store quota records tied to card development events so repeated upstream calls for the same card only count once.
  • The service may keep aggregate operational metrics such as daily request counts, daily development counts, quota blocks, upstream errors, and daily unique install counts derived from a one-way hash.
  • The service is designed not to store prompts, images, audio clips, transcripts, raw client identifiers, or other raw capture payloads.

OpenAI

AliceSense uses OpenAI APIs to interpret certain capture inputs and generate developed images when you choose AI development. OpenAI processes the request data needed to provide that service. Your use of OpenAI through AliceSense is also subject to OpenAI's own policies and terms.

Device Permissions and Sensors

AliceSense may request access to the camera, microphone, and location depending on which features and capture inputs you enable.

  • Camera is used to capture framing and low-detail visual structure.
  • Microphone is used for sound level measurement and optional ambient audio clips.
  • Location is used for optional place labels, address context, coordinates, altitude, and weather lookups.

You can change permissions at any time in iOS Settings and can also toggle specific capture inputs inside the app.

Third-Party Services

AliceSense uses only a small set of third-party services needed to provide its core functionality:

  • OpenAI for AI development and audio interpretation.
  • Cloudflare Worker for the optional built-in free development tier and quota enforcement.
  • Weather providers when weather capture is enabled and the app requests weather context for your location.

Sharing and Saving

If you save an image to Photos or share an image elsewhere, that action is initiated by you and handled through Apple's system interfaces. AliceSense does not control where you share exported images after you choose to do so.

Children's Privacy

AliceSense is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. If AliceSense changes its data practices in a material way, this page will be revised accordingly.
